We each have different motivations for engaging in self-development initiatives but it's safe to say the main one is for personal growth. Let's face it. If you're not growing you're atrophying in every area of your life. What good are you to society when you are not living up to your potential?
Our busy schedules can sometimes become a hindrance to our personal development but with so many different platforms and ways of learning nowadays, we really have no excuse.
Here are my top 5 tips to help you on your personal growth journey.
Be a constant learner.
You may not have the time to attend formal training programs so enroll in online courses.
Attend workshops, seminars and conferences that speak to your interests.
Learn a different language. This can be a fun and productive activity. Having a second or third language is an asset.
Learn to play an instrument.
Read inspirational books or listen to audiobooks. Audiobooks have now become one of my favourite hobbies and I listen while I do the laundry, clean the house, cook, or drive. It's amazing how much you can learn in the process.
2. Start a business.
If you are creative and like to take on a challenge then entrepreneurship could be a rewarding step in your personal development journey.
3. Get rid of bad habits.
Oh, Come on! We all have them. Acknowledgment is the first step in the process then you have to develop certain disciplines to remove them from your life and replace them with more productive activities.
4. Improve your diet.
Eating healthy becomes more beneficial the more you do it. I'm an avid snacker especially when I'm writing. So, I've been disciplining myself to replace Cheetos with healthier snacks like the chocolate bars from Good Eats. But hold on...
Food is not the only diet you have to pay attention to. You must also be diligent about what you read, watch and listen to. Turn off the junk and feed your spirit and soul with healthy information.
5. Self-care.
Be aware of your stress triggers and step away when you need to. But why wait until you're stressed? Why not make self-care a regular part of your daily or weekly routine? Schedule an hour or two of quiet time every day or week to do whatever feeds your soul. Your future self will thank you for it.
These are things you can do on your own to contribute to your personal development. If you would like to take it up a notch then I encourage you to enroll in my Empowered To Thrive Program where we do deep soul diving to uncover the hidden treasure within; Your best YOU!
You've been thinking about it for a while, so don't hesitate.
